In December of 2019, Claude Zammit Trevisan, a successful director who toured Europe as his job required, decided to take a step back from his jet set lifestyle and head back to Malta. Before his return, he took a sabbatical and went on a mission to source some of the best teas in the world.
This journey saw its beginning at the mountainous highlands of Nuwara Eliya in Sri Lanka, where he visited some of the most important and historic tea estates of Ceylon. There he met tea pickers and visited tea plantations, which resulted in the most divine cups of tea. He also learnt to distinguish the various tea flavours which this land has to offer.
“It was an incredible experience, and the satisfaction of personally sourcing my own teas for our new concept boutique in Birgu was immense”, expressed Claude on his blog on http://www.birgublue.com.
The Blue Fields Tea Estate; one of the oldest established estates of Ceylon and the Nandana Tea Factory were his choice of all the offers.
In the lovely warm boutique Birgu Blue, at 66, Hilda Tabone Street in Birgu, you can find a selection of 10 different teas: flavoured teas – Earl Gray, Orange, Vanilla, Peppermint and Cinnamon teas, as well as single blend black teas – Pekoe, Orange Pekoe (OP), Broken Orange Pekoe (BOP) and of course, Green Tea. Claude enjoys pairing his delicate tea flavours with his wonderful home-made Maltese jams. And from this, he has developed his exquisite tea and jam pairing workshops.
We from wirtmalta.mt, advise you tea lovers and all, to visit their site www.birgublue.com where you can learn more about their gourmet and tea selection as well as book a tea and jam pairing workshop. Check it out and see how! Enjoy!
