Mardi Gras or fat Tuesday in everyday language, is today’s name as regards to the last day for Carnival Celebrations before starting the season of Lent as of tomorrow.
It is related to the culminating events of great Carnival festivities and celebrations which end at midnight before Ash Wednesday.
As one can note, all cultural events are combined to the religious sector. Carnival is also derived from the word ‘Carne Vale” (Carne – meat, Vale – it is permitted) derived from the Italian or Latin language used in the past.
This year, due to the pandemic issue, the Carnival festivities were not held as usual; thus artistic installations were to be seen in different villages and also in Valletta.
This was coordinated by Festivals Malta who did a great job in roder to keep up the spirits.
For all of you who follow the Catholic tradition/ritual not to eat sweets in the Lenten period, today is your day to indulge in your favourite prinjolata, chocolate and more.
Enjoy 😊
