The Airshow Team is happy to announce the participation of the Italian Navy who last participated at the Malta Int’l Airshow in 2005. The Marina Militare will take part with an SH-90 of the 4° Gruppo Elicotteri based at Grottaglie.
The Italian Navy ordered 46 NFH known as SH-90A plus 10 TTH known as MH-90A in MITT (Maritime Italian navy Tactical Transport) transport configuration for amphibious / special forces support but retaining some of the NFH features such as Automatic Folding Blades, etc for shipborne operations.
The primary role of the SH-90 NFH version is autonomous anti-submarine warfare (ASW) and anti-surface unit warfare (ASuW), mainly from naval ships. These aircraft are equipped for day and night, adverse weather and severe ship motion operations. Additional roles include anti-air warfare support, vertical replenishment (VERTREP), search and rescue (SAR) and troop transport.
