Following the success in the first days of the ‘Say No to Stroke’ campaign, the Ministry for Active Ageing together with the Active Ageing and Community Care, will continue this campaign in more localities so that more elderly check their health. During this campaign, the elderly will be able to undergo free medical tests. These tests include blood sugar levels and blood pressure testing, which are indicators for the risk of stroke. Doctors will be present to refer anyone who would require further investigations.
This campaign helps and encourages elderly to live healthier lives, thereby improving their quality of life.
After taking place in the areas around Naxxar/Għargħur and Sliema in September, this campaign will continue in the localities as listed hereunder:
• On the 28 and 29 October at Dar il-Fjuri, Victoria and at Dar Padova, Għajnsielem for all the elderly living in Gozo;
• On the 4 and 5 November:
o in the residential care home of Mellieħa for the elderly who reside in Mellieħa, Mġarr and St Paul’s Bay.
o in the residential care home of Imtarfa for the elderly who reside in Mtarfa, Rabat, Siġġiewi, Ħaż Żebbuġ, Qormi, Mdina, Dingli, Attard, Mosta, St Venera and Ħamrun.
• On the 11 and 12 November:
o in the residential care home Dar l-Annunzjata, Tarxien, for the elderly who reside in Żurrieq, Qrendi, Mqabba, Safi, Kirkop, Marsa, Luqa, Gudja, Għaxaq, Tarxien, Fgura, St Lucia, Valletta, Floriana and Pieta’.
o in the residential care home St. Thomas Community Living, Marsascala, for the elderly who reside in Raħal Ġdid, Żabbar, Marsascala, Xgħajra, Bormla, Isla, Birgu, Kalkara, Marsaxlokk, Birżebbuġa and Żejtun.
The check-ups will be held between 8am and 4pm.
In order to streamline the attendees as much as possible, we kindly ask the elderly to attend according to the locality where they reside and on the day indicated. Those elderly whose first letter of their surname starts between the letters A and G should attend on the first day indicated for their locality. While the remainder (from letter H to letter Z) should attend on the second day indicated.
It is recommended to drink water prior to the tests but, if possible, do not consume food two hours before the tests.
