Today, the Malta Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka, Japan is presenting “The Black Garment”, a live fashion installation commissioned by Arts Council Malta. The event showcases six contemporary interpretations of the traditional għonnella, reimagined for today’s world while remaining rooted in Maltese heritage. This unique presentation highlights the fusion of culture and creativity on an international stage.
The installation is led by acclaimed Maltese fashion designer Luke Azzopardi, known for blending history with contemporary design. Through “The Black Garment”, Azzopardi celebrates Malta’s rich cultural legacy and innovative spirit by breathing new life into an iconic symbol. The event will be streamed live at 13:00hrs, offering audiences worldwide the opportunity to experience this striking moment of Maltese creativity.
