He asked: Why do European storms get names?
When a storm is expected to affect several countries and cause serious impacts such as strong winds, heavy rain, rough seas or damage, it is given a name so people can recognise it easily and take warnings seriously. A named storm is also easier to communicate than using technical terms like “a Mediterranean cyclone”.
So what exactly is Harry?
Harry is a named European storm system. It is not tropical, has no eye, and is not structured like a hurricane. However, it can still be very powerful, especially over the sea. In the Mediterranean, storms like Harry often bring strong winds, very high waves and rapid changes in weather conditions.
