The EEA Malta Maritime Museum Project is a major Heritage Malta project which targets the restoration and structural upgrading of the Malta Maritime Museum and the innovative visitor centre presentation of the Museum’s collection through assets digitisation.
On its facebook page, a model of a first-century AD Roman Merchant Ship was featured.
This model represents a double-ended ship with a broad round hull, marked by a stern gallery and a tall stern-post turned into a swan-neck.
The vessel has a stern cabin, an overhanging stern gallery, a main-mast rigged with a single yard-arm and square sail, atop of which a split topsail can be added to. A forward raking fore-post, called artemon, rigged with a yard-arm and small square fore-sail completes the ship’s sail arrangements. The stern flanked by a pair of steering oars. A rowing boat appears strapped on deck.
This project is financed thanks to the Norway Grants. Well done for such initiatives!
